Nicola Corna

About

Nicola has been nursing for almost 30 years, with the past 20 years in the respiratory team at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. Nicola achieved Nurse Practitioner status in 2019.   

Nicola’s work includes screening, assessing and diagnosing people with chronic respiratory and related conditions, prescribing and managing treatment and follow up. A broader goal is to improve health outcomes in the community by teaching and working collaboratively with primary care providers and other local health services.

Nicola is involved in outpatient and outreach services for adolescent and adult people with a diverse range of respiratory conditions including ILD, severe asthma, non-invasive ventilation, sleep disorders, post covid, pulmonary rehab and general respiratory common and rare conditions.

Nicola is involved with a variety of working groups including local District Health Board asthma pathways and guidelines, regional COPD health pathways and initiatives. She regularly presents on respiratory related topics to a wide variety of audiences across New Zealand.

Nicola was part of the writing team who developed New Zealand’s first national COPD guidelines and is currently revising these. Nicola is on the NZ Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ Scientific Advisory Board and Vaping Expert Advisory boards. She is a foundation member of the Australasian ILD Nurse Alliance Steering Committee.
