This webinar is being hosted by the Centre for Safe Air.
Smoke from the 2019-2020 south east Australian fires has been linked to an estimated 417 excess deaths, and many more hospitalisations.
With worse than average bushfire conditions forecast for many parts of Australia, this webinar provides evidence-based strategies for people at risk of poor health from bushfire smoke.
In this webinar, Dr Sharon Campbell (Menzies Institute for Medical Research, the HEAL Network) and Dr Nigel Goodman (University of Canberra and the HEAL Network) present findings regarding the most effective ways for communities to reduce their exposure to bushfire smoke and stay safe.
They are joined by science communicators from the Australian National University, Dr Erin Walsh and Liz Drummond, who have recently published a new children’s book, Shirin and Amir and the Dragon Smoke, co-authored with Jemima Shafei-Ongu and illustrated by Magie Khameneh. The book aims to raise greater awareness and understanding for children around bushfire smoke
