This webinar is being hosted by the Centre for Safe Air
The immune system may hold the key to understanding the complex mechanism whereby air pollution harms the whole human body.
Inhaling air pollutants such as pollen or fine particulate matter (PM2.5) starts a cascade of immune system changes.
Some parts of the immune system may become inflamed and stressed, while other parts are suppressed.
To help understand these complex causal mechanisms and their health impacts, this webinar will feature presentations from two leading researchers:
Professor Angela Haczku is an internationally recognized expert in pulmonary immunology. She is Director of the UC Davis Lung Center. She studies the effects of environmental exposures (allergens, air pollution, cigarette smoke and psychosocial stress) on respiratory health and disease.
Dr Dwan Vilcins is a Research Fellow at the Child Health Research Centre, in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences, at the University of Queensland. Dwan is an environmental epidemiologist, with a particular interest in children’s environmental health and a background in public health and nutrition.
The webinar is Chaired by Dr Sabrina Idrose, postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Safe Air and the University of Melbourne. We look forward to seeing you there!
