Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month – Ministerial Visit

Posted on: Sunday 1st September 2024
Minister for Health and Aged Care, The Hon Mark Butler, Lung Foundation Australia CEO, Mark Brooke and Professor Tamera Corte from the Centre for Research Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis.

One of the nation’s most serious lung diseases is being highlighted in September, as Australia joins other countries around the world to mark Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month.

In the lead up to Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month, Chief Investigator of the Centre for Research Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis, Prof Tamera Corte, CEO of Lung Foundation Australia, Mark Brooke, and a long-standing philanthropic donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, had the opportunity to meet with the Minister for Health and Aged Care, the Hon Mark Butler.

The meeting was to talk about the prevalence of pulmonary fibrosis in Australia and current and future research priorities. It was also great to discuss the international reputation of the Centre of Research Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis and its collaborative approach, new treatments, and recent air quality research.

We are so grateful to the Minster for taking the time to learn more about pulmonary fibrosis and personally thank a generous philanthropist whose family has donated and or pledged nearly $20 million to pulmonary fibrosis research over the last 15 years.

Thanks also to Mark Brooke at Lung Foundation Australia and Minister Butler.
