Trevor Allan

About

Trevor was an inaugural and long-serving member of the Centre of Research Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis’ Consumer Advisory Group. Trevor was a passionate and inspiring supporter of research, taking immense pleasure from being able to participate as a consumer in supporting the process. He was profoundly grateful for the work that researchers and clinicians have done and are continuing to do in relation to IPF and other lung diseases.

Trevor was married to Julie, they have 6 children and 14 grandchildren. Trevor was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2013. With anti-fibrotic treatment, his lung function remained stable for several years but increasing breathlessness during 2020 led to a diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension and the beginning of 24/7 Oxygen therapy and more restricted lifestyle. Trevor sadly passed away in mid-2024.

Trevor was an accomplished educator, advocate and leader; working as Head of Student Equity, Welfare & Disability Services at the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and Director of the Disability Services Centre at the Australian National University (ANU). In his distinguished career, Trevor was awarded Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence awards, a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning and the first Honorary Life Member of the Australian Tertiary Education Network on Disability (ATEND).

Trevor’s powerful words continue to inspire CRE-PF efforts: “After many years of a blessed life, my life is so restricted and constrained now, that every minute of every day is a struggle. I would give everything I could to reduce the risk of any other human being experiencing what I have as the disease and its impact on my life has progressed. A fabulous initiative. Congratulations to everyone involved, and let’s get this done!!” Thanks for your dedication and support Trevor, we will keep shooting for the moon.
