Dr Baca Chan is a Research Fellow within the Institute for Respiratory Health. She has over 10 years of research experience in cell biology, immunology, and virology. She obtained her PhD in Microbiology in 2012 from the University of Western Australia. From 2013-2016, she held a postdoctoral appointment at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig, Germany.

Since 2018, Dr Chan has been a senior member of the Vaccines and Viral Immunity Group at the Institute for Respiratory Health. Beginning in 2026, Dr Chan is broadening her research program through a new role in the Cell Biology Group led by Prof Yuben Moodley. Her current research focuses on characterising biomarkers of IPF and exploring innovative approaches to diagnosing and treating chronic lung diseases.Â
