About
Kiara Knuckey is a research assistant within the Queensland Lung Transplant Service Research Laboratory. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Queensland in July 2025, completing her honours thesis on antiviral immune responses in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Kiara has a keen interest in understanding how the immune system plays a role in lung diseases like pulmonary fibrosis, and she is involved in several projects investigating this within the lab. One of her other roles is overseeing exhaled breath sampling using a Particles in Exhaled Air (PExA) machine, with the aim of validating this machine as a novel, non-invasive way to sample the distal lung that could one day be used as a diagnostic tool.
