Lorenzo D'Amico

About

Lorenzo is a distinguished biomedical engineer, who earned his honors degree from the University of Trieste in 2019.

Following this, he pursued advanced studies at the Nanotechnology PhD school of the same institution. His doctoral research was conducted in collaboration with Elettra, the Italian synchrotron, focusing on the “Imaging and Characterization of Fibrotic Tissue.”

During his PhD, Lorenzo joined the group led by Professor Frauke Alves at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Science, as visiting scientist. In March 2024, he joined Monash University as a research fellow, for the “Implementation of X-ray Phase-Contrast Tomography to Revolutionize Cancer Diagnosis” (IMPACT) project.

During the PhD, Lorenzo developed a multi-technique pipeline for the study of lung fibrosis, exploiting synchrotron x-ray phase contrast imaging, atomic force microscopy, and Fourier infrared spectroscopy. His research interest includes lung disease, with particular focus on Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and lung cancer.
