About
Virginia Wainaina is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Institute for Respiratory Health in Perth, working with Professor Yuben Moodley. Her research focuses on integrative multi-omics approaches to understand transcriptional and epigenetic regulation in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She has expertise spanning bioinformatics, molecular biology, genetics, and data science, with a strong track record of combining wet-lab experimentation and advanced computational analysis.
Virginia is skilled in RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, methylation, and proteomics, as well as high-performance computing, reproducible workflows, and network analysis. She also brings extensive experience from CSIRO, where she led large-scale genomic projects in crop improvement.
Her research lies at the interface of molecular biology and computational science, with a particular interest in translating systems biology insights into new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies for chronic lung diseases.
